Hurstbourne, Kentucky

Hurstbourne is a city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,884 at the 2000 census. The land was surveyed by John Floyd in 1774 and part of a military land grant to Henry Harrison. It was first settled by William Linn, who build a stockade, Linn's Station, along Beargrass Creek in 1779. It was probably located along the east side of what is now Hurstbourne Parkway. In 1789, Richard Clough Anderson purchased 500 acres and established an estate called Soldier's Retreat, which made up much of Hurstbourne. It was owned in 1842 by John Jeremiah Jacob, who renamed it Lynnford, and by 1915 the property was known as Hurstbourne. Jacob's 1840s house is now part of the Hurstbourne Country Club's clubhouse. Hurstbourne Parkway was created in 1935 when an earlier lane was widened.
