Kennett is a city in Dunklin County, Missouri, USA. The population was 11,260 at the 2000 census. Kennett is the county seat of Dunklin County . The Kennett Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of Dunklin County. The city is located in the southeast corner of Missouri, 4 miles east of Arkansas and 20 miles from the Mississippi River. According to "The History of Craighead County Arkansas", by Henry Lee Williams, Kennett was founded on the site of the old American Indian town of Chilicataw, an area that was near the Trail of Tears, when the indians were forceably relocated from Georgia to lands west.
