Mansfield, Ohio

Mansfield is the county seat of Richland County in the U.S. state of Ohio. The city is located in north-central Ohio, approximately 81 miles southwest of Cleveland and 67 miles northeast of Columbus. It was founded in 1808 on a fork of the Mohican River in a hilly region surrounded by fertile farmlands, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location with numerous railroad lines. After the decline of heavy manufacturing, the city's industry has since diversified into service economy, including retailing, education, and healthcare sectors. In 2006 Mansfield had an estimated population of 50,212. According to the US Census 2006 estimate, the Mansfield, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 127,010 residents, while the Combined Statistical Area has 172,057 residents.
