Mont Clare is a village in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA, on the northeast bank of the Schuylkill River. One of two remaining stretches of the Schuylkill Canal runs through Mont Clare. Mont Clare was originally named Quincyville. On an 1877 map, the village is shown as "Mt. Clare". There is a claim that when the railroad came through, they named the local station after a nearby estate, Montclair, but the railroad is not shown on the 1877 map, so the name may predate the railroad. Mont Clare is the site of Lock 60 a fully restored and operating lock of the Schuylkill Canal, as well as the restored locktender's house. Notable people Future Governor of Pennsylvania, Samuel W. Pennypacker, had his first job teaching in a one room school house in Mont Clare. Local lore has it that "The Sundance Kid" grew up in Quincyville. Mont Clare has its own ZIP Code, 19453, although its small post office was recently closed.
