The City of North Liberty is in Johnson County, Iowa and was incorporated November 10, 1913 at a time when the population was approximately 190. It is a suburb of Iowa City. It is part of the Iowa City, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population dipped to 150 in 1930 but doubled to 300 by 1940 and by 1960 the population was 334 and by 1967 it numbered 782. In 1981 the city had grown to 2,046 and at the 2000 census, the city population was 5,367; a special census taken by the city in 2004 counted 7,224 residents.
