Originally, the city was called Concord, which is currently still the name of the man-made lake and surrounding housing developement there. Later the city was re-named Springfield until it was discovered there was already a Springfield, MO. The name "Plattsburg" was borrowed from Plattsburgh, New York, which is the county seat of Clinton County, New York which in turn was named for George Clinton .
