Plymouth, Ohio

Plymouth is a village in Huron and Richland counties in Ohio. It is part of the Mansfield, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,852 at the 2000 census. Plymouth was formerly the headquarters of the Plymouth Locomotive Works, a builder of industrial railroad locomotives. The factory closed in 1999. The original Plymouth automobile was designed and built in Plymouth. It was purchased by Henry Chrysler to be developed into the Plymouth Automobile Division. A court battle ensued over the ownership of the name "Plymouth" when the Ohio engineers designed and built the first "Plymouth" truck. Chyrsler won in short order. After the Depression the plant desighned and built the famous "Silver King" tractor. During the Annual Silver King Festival, the first week of August, restored Silver Kings tractors from around the world are displayed.
