Prince Frederick is a census-designated place in Calvert County, Maryland, United States, not to be confused with the incorporated, and much larger, city of Frederick some 70 miles to the northwest in Frederick County. The population was 1,432 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Calvert County . The population is steadily growing with new housing and shopping centers. The College of Southern Maryland maintains a day campus there, there is a hospital, and commuter buses run to Washington, D.C. The main branch of the Calvert Library is located in Prince Frederick. It is located at Costley Road, named after a long time advocate and trustee of the library, Mr. Russell Costley.
