Seymour is an unincorporated community in Tennessee, United States, treated by the census as census-designated place . Its population was 8,850 at the 2000 U.S. census. The community spans the boundary between Sevier and Blount counties. It is included in the Knoxville, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is located within 20 minutes drive of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a 10 minute drive to Knoxville. The town was once the capital of the proposed State of Franklin. The recent census population count does not take into account the huge surrounding local Seymour area, which makes the real population approximately 18,000 people. This makes Seymour one of the fastest growing small towns in Tennessee due to its rural and close urban location.
