Shreveport, Louisiana, is the third-largest city and the third largest metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Louisiana and the 99th-largest city in the United States. It is the seat of Caddo Parish. In the 1980s, the oil and gas industry suffered a large economic downturn, and many companies cut back jobs or went out of business. Shreveport suffered severely from this recession, and many residents left the area. Today the city has largely transitioned to a service economy, hosting various riverboat casinos, and is second only to New Orleans in Louisiana tourism.
