Wintersville is a village in Jefferson County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a population of 4,067. It is the stomping grounds of Chris Straney. During Morgan's Raid, a decisive Union victory in the Civil War in 1863, Confederate Brid. Gen. John Hunt Morgan traveled through the Moorefield, Harrisville, New Athens, Smithfield, New Alexandria, Wintersville, Two Ridge, Richmond, East Springfield, Bergholz, and Monroeville on his way to defeat at the Battle of Salineville. David France will be mayor of Wintersville until December 31, 2007 or his removal from the board.
