Clinton is a city in Clinton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 27,772 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Clinton County . Along with DeWitt, Iowa, it was named in honor of the seventh Governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton. Clinton is the center of a small metro area, including Camanche, Iowa; Fulton, Illinois; Albany, Illinois; and the unincorporated area of East Clinton, Illinois.
