Hawthorne, California

Hawthorne is a city located in southwestern Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 84,112. Although incorporated as a city in 1922, Hawthorne is a part of the immense sprawl that amounts to the greater Los Angeles area. Although Hawthorne itself is not a beach community, it is a part of the LA area deemed the "South Bay", and as such is adjacent to the city of Manhattan Beach and other waterfront towns such as Redondo Beach. Hawthorne is known to rock and roll fans as the home of Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. The Wilson brothers' boyhood home was demolished in the late 1980s during the construction of the Century Freeway, although it was honored by the dedication of the Beach Boys Historic Landmark in May 2005.
