It is one of two principal cities of and included in the "Kankakee-Bradley, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area", which is included in the larger "Chicago-Michigan City, Illinois-Indiana-Wisconsin Combined Statistical Area". Library service is provided by the Kankakee Public Library.
