Lost Hills is a census-designated place in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,938 at the 2000 census. Almost all of Lost Hills' residents are Mexican migrant farm laborers. About 75% of the population were engaged in agricultural positions. Half of its population can speak no English. Only about 10% have completed high school, and almost one quarter have never completed any schooling. These factors, combined with the low-paying agricultural jobs, contribute to Lost Hill's poverty, as the median income of males is only $17,804. Lost Hills' residents are highly proud of their Mexican nationality. Of the 96.75% Latinos in Lost Hills, 71.83% designate themselves as being "some other race" . In Lost Hills, two-thirds of its workers carpool to work in pickup trucks or vans. One reason for this trend is that many Lost Hills residents do not own a vehicle and thus are forced to carpool.
