Morganton, North Carolina

Morganton is a city in Burke County, North Carolina, United States. “Reader's Digest� included Morganton in its list of top ten places to raise a family, and the town was recently profiled in "The 50 Best Small Southern Towns." The population was 17,310 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Burke County . Twenty minutes outside of Morganton is the manmade Lake James, which is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. The lake offers an abundance of summertime recreation that includes: fishing, boating, canoeing, and camping. There are also multiple ski areas located approximately an hour from Morganton; these ski areas include, but are not limited to, Ski Beech, Sugar Mountain, and Hawks Nest. Morganton is located on Interstate-40 and has a central location to the cities of Hickory , Asheville , Charlotte and Winston-Salem .
