Penndel, Pennsylvania

Penndel is a borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,420 at the 2000 census. Penndel has been greatly affected by suburban decay, as much of the development occurred in the sixties or before. The commercial strip along Business Route 1 is the worst of it, while the residential areas are still in good shape. Many redevelopment plans are the process, since the commercial area has an 80% vacancy rate. These plans cannot begin until the borough figures out a plan for their significant debt. In late 2006 and early 2007, Penndel suggested getting rid of their police force, relying on the nearby Langhorne Borough police, and the always present Middletown Township police. This would cut a large amount of money from their yearly spendings. Also, at the end of 2006, a proposed tax bill was presented. 1% earned income tax for Penndel, and Neshaminy SChool District, on top of that, proposed a 1/2% earned income tax.
