Temple Terrace is a city in north-central Hillsborough County, Florida. According to the City's Estimates 2006 estimates, the city had a population of 23,405. It was named for the then new hybrid Temple orange and the surrounding terraced terrain, several of the original homes also had terraced yards. In 1921, the heirs of Bertha Honore Potter-Palmer of Chicago sold the land comprising their 16,000 acre hunting preserve in the area to the cities original developers and two development corporations were formed—Temple Terrace Estates, Inc., who developed the golf course and residential areas; and Temple Terraces, Inc., who developed the 5,000 acres of Temple orange groves that originally surrounded the City, the largest citrus grove in the world in the 1920s.
