Waynesburg is a borough in Greene County, Pennsylvania, 60 miles south by west of Pittsburgh. It is the county seat of Greene County. The region is underlaid with a stratum of coking coal. Some oil and natural gas deposits were in the area, too, at one time. Early in the twentieth century, four large gas compressing stations and a shovel factory were in Waynesburg. In 1900, 2,544 people lived here, and in 1910, 3,545 residents were here. The population was 4,184 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Greene County .
