- SimplyHired does realize that it can be hard to remember passwords and usenames for multiple sites. If you need to recover this information, simply click on the forgot username/password link.

- Not unless the job in question happens to be with Simply Hired! Otherwise, we're the search engine, not the hiring company. - Can I save my information on Simply Hired?
- "My Simply Hired" allows you to rate and save job listings. Once you do that, you can also save your own notes about listings that you're interested in. Without a Simply Hired account you can save jobs and searches, but the information will reside on your browser, so clearing your cache and cookies will delete whatever you've saved.
- Does Simply Hired provide support for Canada and other countries?
- At this time, we do not provide support outside of the United States, though you'll often find U.S. companies posting jobs located abroad. (E.g: type in "Hong Kong" and you'll find all kinds of jobs based there.)
We plan to expand into Canada in 2006, with more countries to follow later on. If you think we should be expanding into your neck of the woods, please contact us and let us know. - Why do I see older/expired listings on the site?
- While we do a great deal to reduce the probability that you will see an older/expired listing on the SimplyHired site, old/expired listings can appear if the source site (where we pulled the information from) still has the job active on their site.
If you are an employer that would like to have a listing pulled, please contact the source site directly. The job would quickly clear from our results after the source site removed it.
Note: The source site is shown at the bottom of every job listing. - How do I look for a job with a specific title?
- If you want to look for a job with a specific title, simply put title: in front of the job title in the keywords area. While doing a keyword search will often return many results that are similar in nature, doing so can also mean that the search engine will look for it in the description as well (in other words, you may pull listings that have "customer", "service" & "manager" somewhere in the job description that aren't actual Customer Service Manager jobs.
Example using 'Customer Service Manager' - How do I search for a job with a specific company?
- If you know that you are looking for a job with a specific company, simply put company: in front of the company name in the keyword area. While putting in a company name without company: in the keywords area will often lead to the correct results, you may actually get listings not related to actual company if you are using a company that has a common identifier ("General Motors", for example, might pull listings from General Motors & General Electric because the word "general" is in the listing).
Example using Pfizer
You can also surround the company name with () to make the search even more exact. Example using General Motors - Which boolean operators (search modifiers) does SimplyHired support?
- SimplyHired supports the three main boolean operators:
AND OR NOT
Note: These are not supported within "phrase" searches. - What is "Send-to-Friend"?
- You're probably not the only one looking for a better job. So if you find a job that's not for you, but could be perfect for someone you know, spread the love: send them a job you found on Simply Hired! "Send-to-Friend" is attached to every job and it might score you major points down the road. It's also effective for use on the deadbeat cousin who's been on your couch so long you fear he's putting down roots.
- What if I want Simply Hired to read my mind and tell me which jobs to look at?
- Done, and done! Give us a hint by saving and rating a few jobs. Then go to the suggestions tab and you'll see the jobs we think are right up your alley. Don't say we never did anything nice for you.
For Employers and Job Boards
- Do you have tools for employers to search for candidates?
- Wouldn't that be cool? Currently we have no such tools, but we can assure you that there are lots of great people out there looking for you.
- Terms and Conditions for Advertisers
- Please review our Terms and Conditions for Advertisers.
- Do you charge for adding job listings?
- Simply Hired does not charge for an employer to add their listings to our site.
If you would like to submit jobs to Simply Hired, you can do so with an XML feed. If your site is large enough (more than 50 jobs), please contact us with your company's careers/employment opportunities URL.
If you have questions on XML feeds and what data fields are accepted and required, please check our XML FAQ's - Do you have tools for employers to search for candidates?
- Simply Hired does not currently have tools for employers and recruiters to search for candidates.
- Can I ftp an XML feed?
- The following are the two choices for us receiving an XML feed with ftp:
a) You can set up an account on your FTP server for Simply Hired as "read only".
b) Simply Hired can establish an account for you on our FTP server.
Note: Option (a) is the preferred option. - Can I provide a feed to jobs I have posted?
- Simply Hired can accept feeds in XML format. If you would like to send us the information about your feed, please feel free to contact us.
- Can you use a feed that I already have set up?
- If your pre-existing feed contains the required fields and can be mapped to our XML format, then we can use it. We will work with you to get useable feeds working with our system.
- How do I add my job listings and/or job site to your search results?
- There are two ways you can currently add your jobs to our search results:
Option 1: Provide us with a link to your site (we generally require having at least 100 jobs posted to do this).
Option 2: Provide us with a feed (a feed will work for all inquiries). A feed is also the easiest way to get your jobs listed if you don't meet (a) above. In the future, we will increase the number of sites we index, and reduce the number of job listings required for inclusion in our crawl. - How do I remove expired job listings from your site?
- As Simply Hired is not a job board, we would need to direct you back to the site(s) where you posted the listing for removal. A listing will only appear in our search engine if it is still active with the site where we pulled the information from.
- How does a feed get transmitted?
- There are three ways to transmit your feed:
Option 1: We get the feed file from your FTP server.
Option 2: We get the feed file from your web site.
Option 3: You put the feed file on our FTP server. - How often will my feed get read?
- It will be read on a regular schedule based on your input. Options for reading:
a) weekly
b) a given day at a given time
c) daily at a given time
d) several times a day - How long does it take for jobs I submit to appear in your search results?
- It can take up to several weeks for us to add jobs to our results if we have to build a custom robot to read the information from your site. If you would like to get your job listings into our search results faster, we would like to recommend that you consider building an XML feed that we can read.
- Is there a specification for a Simply Hired XML format?
- A skeleton XML format can be found here. Please check the required data fields before submitting a feed.
- Delimited files
- We can take just about any type of delimited file (comma, tab, other single character, or multi-character) as long as it has a header line and uses either proper escaping or a significantly complicated multicharacter delimiter such that there is no worry of the delimiter showing up in the data. An example of a multi-character delimiter might be: '#!#'
For single character delimiters, proper escaping is essential if the delimiter may appear in the data.
For multi-character delimiters, we assume that NO escaping will present. - Skeleton XML format
<jobs> <job> <title/> <job-code/> <action/> <job-board-name/> <job-board-url/> <detail-url/> <apply-url/> <job-category/> <description> <summary/> <required-skills/> <required-education/> <required-experience/> <!-- below are all boolean --> <full-time/> <part-time/> <flex-time/> <internship/> <volunteer/> <exempt/> <contract/> <permanent/> <temporary/> <telecommute/> </description> <compensation> <salary-range/> <salary-amount/> <salary-currency/> <benefits/> </compensation> <posted-date/> <close-date/> <location> <address/> <city/> <state/> <zip/> <country/> <area-code/> </location> <contact> <name/> <email/> <hiring-manager-name/> <hiring-manager-email/> <phone/> <fax/> </contact> <company> <name/> <description/> <industry/> <url/> </company> </job> </jobs>- Other XML formats
- Although we give slight preference to our own Simply Hired XML Format, we can still map most other reasonable XML formats correctly, if the required fields are present. Please inquire to see if we can take your XML feed as is.
- Additional character encoding information
- All feeds must be in ASCII or Latin1 encoding. Other encodings will not parse properly. A decent, though not comprehensive, test is to load the XML file in Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Both of these browsers will object to bad XML or un-readable characters, though they each have their own view of "valid". Neither will catch all problems.
- What type of feeds are accepted?
- Our feed system is designed to use XML and delimited files (comma, tab, etc) or a set of characters (ex: "##"). For XML files we accept data formatted in Simply Hired XML or any XML format that can be mapped to ours.
- Which character encoding should be used for feeds?
- Basic ASCII, Latin1, or UTF8 encoding. Certain characters that are used in the Windows ANSI encoding will not parse properly with an XML parser.
- What type of feeds are accepted?
- Simply Hired accepts incoming job feeds in either XML or delimited formats. We do not take RSS-XML feeds. Please click here for more information on the data fields we read.
- What are the required data fields for feeds?
- The required fields are:
job title job description detail page URL job location (minimum state) job code or other unique identifier
Note: If any required field is missing for a particular job, that job will not be indexed. - What are the data fields I can use for an XML feed?
- Data fields we accept, by category (see below for required fields):

- XML formats
- Simply Hired can work with a wide range of XML formats but we are standardizing a preferred Simply Hired XML Format.
Snuffleupagus FAQ
- Who is Snuffleupagus?
- Snuffleupagus (aka Snuffy) is Simply Hired's web-devouring robot. Snuffy collects jobs from all over the Internet so Simply Hired users can search them.
Snuffy has no secrets, so if you have any questions about him that aren't covered in the FAQ, please contact us. - How often will Snuffy visit my site?
- Most commonly, Snuffy will visit your site on a weekly basis to check for new jobs. Generally, Snuffy shouldn't access your site more than 10 times per minute, but you could see slight peaks. If you feel that Snuffy is abusing your site, please let us know immediately so that we can discipline the little devil.
- How do I request that Simply Hired not read parts of or all of my site?
- Simply contact us with the subject "do not crawl". Please be sure to include the URL of your site in the body of the message.
- Snuffy is scanning my site too fast. What can I do?
- Contact us with the URL of your site and a description of the problem. We'll administer Chill Pills as needed until Snuffy simmers down.
- Why are there hits from different machines at Simply Hired?
- Okay, we admit it, Snuffy isn't exactly a single entity. "He" is a group of identical robots (a bit like the clones in that one X-Files episode, only none of them are evil in this case) who work from a number of different machines. We also periodically verify the continued existence of a particular job. Still, traffic to your site should not exceed ten hits per minute. Please let us know if you feel that we are not holding to this limit.
- Why don't the jobs from my site show up in your search results?
- Once a page has been crawled, it can take a day or two for the jobs to appear in our search results. Jobs that don't have the minimum required information or that are duplicates of existing jobs might not show up at all.
- Can I set up a feed instead of having Snuffy crawl my site?
- Absolutely! Please see our feed spec page and FAQ.
