Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History: Live Animal CareSanta Cruz Museum of Natural History - Santa Cruz, CAHere at the museum we have three animal care opportunities: caring for the California King Snake, maintaining our marine touch-tank, and caring for the observation beehive. Of these three opportunities, the animal requiring the most frequent care is Prometheus, our California King Snake. Besides feeding him bi-weekly, we also ask volunteers to clean his cage and change his water on a regular basis. Once every six weeks, depending on tides and weather, the Museum changes the water and animals in our touch-tank. This involves a variety of activities including draining the pool, refresh the water, returning previous inhabitants to the ocean and collecting new creatures.
