The garden serves about 25,000 visitors annually, seeking to ensure a contemplative environment for the visitor. The operating budget of $1.5 million is supported by memberships, gate fees, an annual fundraising appeal and event, as well as income from a generous endowment left by its founders, Virginia and Prentice Bloedel, in 1974. That endowment currently stands at $15 million. The primary purpose of The Reserve is to provide visitors with an opportunity to enjoy nature through quiet walks in the gardens and woodlands.
