Civics tutor (Volunteer)
We are seeking volunteers to assist with our Project Citizenship program. Volunteers assist the instructor with one-to-one or small group tutoring sessions.
This free program is a literacy program that helps immigrants prepare for and pass the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) examination. We provide instruction, tutors, tutor training and materials at no cost to the tutor or the student.
Naturalization is the legal process by which people with lawful permanent resident status can obtain U.S. citizenship. After years of struggling to immigrate to teh U.S., several more years of being a lawful permanent resident, and then often another year or two applying for naturalization, immigrants have the opportunity to obtain the rights of a United States citizen.
