Women's Re-Entry Mentor (Volunteer)
The volunteer mentor's primary responsbility would be to provide support, encouragement and friendship to a woman exiting the criminal justice system from her release to re-entry into society. As there are so many social barriers for women exiting jail/prison, it can be overwhelming and many times former inmates resume risky, self-destructive behaviors. Having the support and friendship of a strong, stable, professional mentor will help provide a sense of community and accountability for these women. The volunteer mentor would agree to one year of service, beginning several months before her mentee's release. Mentors and mentees would be required to meet, or make written or verbal contact, at least once a week for the first 3 months after the mentee's release. Ideal volunteer mentors...
