The hospital has a large cardiac and pediatric program. In 2001 a renovation and new building project was completed in the Emergency Department, which serves an annual volume of 60,500 patients. The Emergency Department is a Level I Trauma Center with a new Chest Pain Evaluation Center offering a state-of-the-art facility in an ideal practice setting. Emergency physicians currently receive academic appointments at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The Emergency Department also has lab and radiology services right in the department.
