Speech Pathologist - Speech Therapy - (PRN, As Needed)

POSITION GOAL:

Administer medically prescribed programs and treatments to detect, assess, prevent, correct, and alleviate speech, language, hearing, cognition oral and pharyngeal sensorimotor competencies. The department will meet age specific needs of neonatal (0-4 wks.), infant (1 mo.-12mos.), child (1 yr. – 12 yrs.), adolescent (13 yrs. – 18 yrs.), adult (18 yrs. – 64 yrs.), and geriatric (greater than 64 yrs.) population.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Evaluates patient and develops appropriate and effective treatment program in accordance with patient’s status, medical referral and therapy evaluation results while maintaining confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient’s rights are protected.

2. Demonstrated understanding of rationale and application of therapeutic techniques, proper body mechanics, safe

7. Inputs into establishing protocols for new programs and updating existing ones.

8. Reports to Director patient-care management problems, equipment needs and maintenance requirements.

9. Co-signs all students’ notes.

10. Coordinates patient’s treatments with other health care professionals where appropriate.

11. Plans individual patient schedule and maintains daily attendance record, daily progress notes, evaluation, home program and discharge summaries. Charges for patient treatment on a daily basis in approved manner.

12. Demonstrates compliance with department and hospital Policies and Procedures while displaying cooperative and constructive attitude in intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.

13. Actively engages in learning and continuing education for self-improvement and professional growth. Attends and participates in staff meetings/inservices. Participates in interdisciplinary conferences and reports with/to disciplines on patient’s progress and discharge planning.

14. Actively assists in revising, developing department Policies and Procedures and development of Performance Improvement indicators.

15. Actively participates in the hospital and department’s Quality and Performance Improvement programs.

16. Works weekends and holidays as needed.

17. Complies with the hospital’s behavioral expectations.

18. Supports and participates in the hospital’s Patient Engagement and Satisfaction initiatives.

19. Shares and promotes the hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values.

20. Supports the Ethics and Compliance Program.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS:

Interacts with all departments.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

One or more years as a Speech Language Pathologist

Education:

Graduate of Masters approved program and clinical competence certification (CCC).

Special Qualifications:

1. Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served including:

2. Thorough knowledge of the physiology of the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Skills required to build treatment plans accordingly.

3. Ability to assess the affects of diminished senses on the patient’s therapy and adjust treatment plan accordingly.

4. Ability to transfer and transport patients with consideration of their skin integrity and orthopedic/medical status.

5. Ability to utilize age specific patient data in providing care.

6. Ability to perform developmental assessments on neonates, infants, children and adolescents.

7. Ability to communicate to patients in an age-appropriate manner and to appropriately involve significant others.

8. Ability to communicate the findings from the evaluation and/or treatments to the referring physician and/or nurse caring for the patient.

9. Licensed, or eligible for licensure in the State of Texas.
