SCOPE OF POSITION
All Corporate Finance team members are expected to promote sound clinical and financial decision making within their assigned areas. A Corporate Finance team member must possess the professional skills to be a good communicator, educator, analyst, leader, motivator, critical thinker, visionary, and teammate. The Corporate Finance team works closely with other strategically related areas within MSHA including Quality, Accounting, Managed Care, Patient Resource Management, Information Systems, and Reimbursement.
Access to patient information may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position; therefore, adherence to all applicable MSHA privacy and confidentiality policies and practices is a requirement.
In addition, the Financial Analyst I may assume the following responsibilities depending on his/her assignments:

The Corporate Finance team works closely with other strategically related areas within MSHA including Quality, Accounting, Managed Care, Patient Resource Management, Information Systems, and Reimbursement.
Access to patient information may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position; therefore, adherence to all applicable MSHA privacy and confidentiality policies and practices is a requirement.
In addition, the Financial Analyst I may assume the following responsibilities depending on his/her assignments:

* Assists assigned areas with profitability analysis for programs and procedures. Develops a working knowledge of MSHA financial systems.
* Works with department leaders to interpret budget variances and to develop action plans to correct variances. Meets with department leaders at least monthly to discuss financials.
* Assists assigned departments in gathering data for capital pro formas for new services, projects and expenditures.
* Assists in developing and maintaining productivity benchmarks and cost accounting standards for assigned area. Develops knowledge of information available through Premier database and assists as necessary in submission of data for external benchmark resources.
* Assists in ensuring accurate procedure and revenue coding for CDMS of assigned departments. Performs yearly review of CMS changes and updates as needed.
* Responsible for assisting in the preparation of the monthly financials for his/her assigned areas including preparing journal entries. Works with facility Controllers/CFOs in month end process to resolve any questions related to his/her areas.
* Works with department leaders in developing operating and capital budgets. Provides education as needed to assigned departments on budget tools and concepts.
* Participates in completion of survey information for state and federal agencies as well as accrediting bodies.
* Assists in the updating of the Five Year capital plan and Five Year operating plan.
* Assists AVP, managers, and senior team members within department on various projects.
* Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and professional development through pursuit of a comprehensive knowledge of healthcare finance and hospital operational matters.
* Assists management in ensuring compliance with all laws, rules and regulations for assigned areas.

It is vital that an individual in this position be capable of good communication skills. It is of the utmost importance that written communication is legible.

MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work.

Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Financial Analyst I will report through his/her assigned Director/Manager of Finance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Management or closely related field is required. Hiring preference will be given to candidates that possess a CPA, CMA or MBA.
