The Intern will support the ongoing build-out and maintenance of the Aqueduct online platform.  This may include supporting the development of a new Aqueduct global flood risk tool, development of web-based national water tools for China and India, and/or other Aqueduct applications or research efforts. The World Resources Institute’s Aqueduct Atlas provides the highest resolution global maps and scores available for water quantity, quality, and regulatory and reputational indicators.  The tool helps companies, investors, governments, and other users understand where and how water risks and opportunities are emerging worldwide.


The intern will gain experience in the following areas:

  * Conducting desk research, including literature reviews, data collection, and expert interviews, to build content for WRI projects

The intern will gain experience in the following areas:

  * Conducting desk research, including literature reviews, data collection, and expert interviews, to build content for WRI projects
  * Conducting spatial and statistical water-related analysis with ArcGIS
  * Contributing content and input to WRI research papers on water risk and links to food, energy, and/or social challenges. Help develop and edit/proofread outreach materials, including WRI blogs on water issues.
  * Organizing, participating, and presenting in meetings with WRI experts on water, forests, and business.
  * Joining meetings and phone and video conference calls with external WRI partners in government, academia, business/finance, and civil society
  * Contributing to the Aqueduct website and other outreach efforts
  * Supporting the Aqueduct team on other project work, as needed

  * Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, business, hydrology, physical or human geography, science or engineering, preferably with a demonstrated understanding of water issues and their policy, business and investment implications. Excellent research, communication and presentation skills
  * Knowledge of and experience with excel, database, statistical, GIS, and visual design softwares.
  * Strong quantitative analytical skills including proficiency in statistics
  * Programming skills preferred
  * Excellent command of oral communication skills and demonstrated writing skills
  * Knowledge of Chinese or Spanish a plus
  * Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  * Results focused, organized, comfortable working independently within a collaborative research team

*Final candidates will be required to take a writing test.*
