Procurement Consulting Internship Fall Spring Summer

AT&T’s new, entrepreneurial internal consulting team performs high-impact functions, such as leading strategic and analytics-driven cost reduction projects, deal restructuring, and critical supplier negotiation support. As part of the global sourcing organization of Supply Chain & Fleet Operations (“SCFO”), AT&T aims to fill openings on this team with extremely high aptitude, analytic and innovative problem solvers, who are ready for a challenging, fast-paced, and dynamic position within America’s largest telecommunications provider.
SCFO works across the entire AT&T organization to negotiate contracts for tens of billions of dollars, in aggregate, worth of goods and services with thousands of equipment and service suppliers. Internal consultants will have the opportunity to support AT&T SCFO’s strategic and tactical cost saving initiatives in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:
  • Leading efforts to improve the efficiency of AT&T’s sourcing process across a broad spectrum of programs.
  • Fortifying contract negotiations via the use of detailed analytics and industry experience to thoroughly and granularly identify a vendor’s product or service costs.
  • Strategically analyzing the sourcing process and implications of sourcing decisions.
  • Restructuring the methods AT&T uses to procure or source certain products or services.
  • Conducting engineering design analysis to ascertain a detailed breakdown of the costs of a vendor to provide a product.

Required Qualifications
  • Pursuit or completion of bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain, or similar
  • Strong analytical skills:
    • Problem Solving - Aptitude to quickly understand and apply economic/business principles, recognize subtleties of complex problems, and develop innovative solutions driven or supported by data
    • Modeling - Ability to work with multiple sources of (often finance-related) data, develop algorithms to aid in assumptions, data mine, etc.
    • Technical - Experience with Microsoft Excel and/or PowerPoint
  • Project Management experience:
    • Effective communication skills
    • Comfortable and effective in working in teams and across functional groups that vary from fundamentally technical to non-technical
  • Demonstrated capability in managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering against tight deadlines
  • Superior negotiation and persuasion skills
Valuable Qualifications
  • Pursuit or completion of advanced degree in Business, Finance, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Logistics, Supply Chain, or similar
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Background in the telecommunications or high-technology industries
  • Background in consulting, investment banking, commodities trading, or another highly analytical role
  • Ability to understand mechanical and electrical engineering concepts
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Access, R, and/or SQL
  • Software development experience
  • Strong understanding of applied statistics, SAS, and IBM SPSS software experience
  • Experience with Big Data and Big Data architectures, such as Hadoop
  • Practical experience building financial, statistical, and other analytical models to evaluate demand, environmental, and cyclical impacts
  • Experience reverse engineering hardware or firmware; software sizing or code estimation
  • Experience managing relationships and interacting with various vendors active in the telecommunications space
  • Previous experience leading advanced teams
