The Center for Co-Clinical Trials is a unique preclinical research arm that will evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of single therapeutics or drug combinations in appropriate preclinical models that more closely resemble disease evolution in humans. This research arm is one of several platforms that will contribute to MD Anderson’s new Moon Shots Program.
These models will shed insight, at the molecular level, on a drug’s mechanism of action, as well as how cancer cells resist therapy. Molecular markers predicting sensitivity or resistance to therapy will be identified with the ultimate goal of discovering biomarkers that predict which patients will benefit from a specific treatment.
The Institute Assoc Scientist III participates in cross-functional research to identify and validate novel oncology targets, and translate these finding into novel oncology therapeutic agents to benefit patients.
KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Under minimal supervision contribute to project activities through laboratory experiments.
2. Contribute to project team's target validation and drug discovery efforts.
3. Utilize common molecular biology skills including Western, ELISA, RNA quantification methods (Q-PCR), DNA cloning (i.e., site directed mutagenesis, protein tagging, shRNA design and validation) and characterization of commercial/custom antibodies to support target validation and drug discovery programs.
4. Perform common tissue culture techniques including viral transduction and DNA/siRNA transfection to generate stable cell lines.
5. Utilize siRNA, inducible shRNA, dominant negative methods, and small molecule inhibitors to validate targets and biomarkers.
6. Assist in the development and utilize molecular (i.e., immunofluorescence, live imaging, ELISA, Western, etc.) and/or functional (i.e., soft agar, migration, invasion, proliferation, etc.) cell based assays to support target validation and/or drug discovery programs.
7. Perform dose response studies in support of patient stratification and biomarker development.
8. Provide support for in vivo pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamics and efficacy studies for target validation and drug discovery efforts.
9. Assist in analysis of in vivo samples for assessment of pharmacodynamics biomarkers.
10. Help establish and validate mechanistic and functional cell based studies for evaluating novel therapeutic targets.
11. Interact across cross-functional groups.
12. Employ safe lab practices
