Basic Duties (Include but not limited to):

Provide medication to patients on a daily basis in an accurate and timely manner.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Administers medication consistent with written orders and nursing protocol.
2. Ensures correct medications and accurate dosages are given to all patients.
3. Passes medication to patients using direct observed therapy to prevent hoarding.
4. Follows inspection control principles in the administration of medications.
5. Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacology, including drug action, side effects, and contraindication.
6. Documents the administration of all medications on the MAR’s system including any missed or refused dose according to policies, procedures and / or protocols. Provides timely notification to appropriate team members in such event.
7. Collects sick call request forms, monitors and transfers medications with MAR’s for patients who have transferred and removes medications for patients who have left the facility.

8. Monitoring medication reserves and informing appropriate manager or team member when ordering of additional medication is required.
9. Notifies Pharmacy Technician or appropriate manager / team member when new patients have not received prescribed non-formulary medications after one (1) business day.
10. Disposes of all sharps according to policies, procedures and or protocols.
11. Observes and upholds safety and security regulations and procedures as required by facility security and CHCC at all times.
12. Participates in continuing education meetings and CQI programs as required.

Must have ability to perform CPR as required.

Other duties as assigned.

* Minimum Educational/Experience Requirements:
* High School Diploma preferred
* Medication Administration Certification with ability to provide state licensing documentation
* Minimum of two (2) years passing medications in a hospital or correctional facility
* Current CPR Certification

* Employment Requirements:
* Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation by the company
* Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.
* Must comply with all requirements of the company substance abuse policy.
* Must obtain and maintain security clearance with the client as a requisite for initial and/or continued employment.
* Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. for this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

* Must have the ability to comply with all CHC policies and procedures.
* Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office software and standard office equipment including computer, copier, fax and telephone equipment.
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
* Maintain documentation and records in a highly organized and confidential fashion.
* Ability to perform tasks outlined in Policies and in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and healthcare standards.
* Must relate well to demanding team members and customers.
* Maintain a current CPR certification from an approved body such as the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Physical/Mental Requirements :Must be able to perform all of the essential elements of the position with or without an accommodation. This position routinely requires (but is not limited to) the following:

* Standing
* Occasional walking throughout site
* Walking up and down flights of stairs
* Pushing or pulling carts
* Routinely lifting objects less than 20 pounds; may lift supply boxes up to 40 pounds.
* Sits at a computer for prolong periods of time
* Speech recognition – the ability to identify and understand the speech of another person
* Speech clarity – the ability to speak clearly so that others can understand you
* Vision – the ability to see details at close range
* Written comprehension – the ability to read and understand information and ideas that are presented in writing
* Deductive reasoning – the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to some level of risk and/or harm by inmates including exposure to blood borne pathogens. Employee is expected to work in accordance with all security rules and regulations to minimize the risk of danger and/or harm to themselves or other employees.

Employee will be operating or working around office equipment that could cause a small level of risk for injury and harm.

Other:

Employee must comply with all current and future State, Federal, and Local laws and regulations, court orders, Administrative Directives and standards and policies and procedures of the site at where assigned.
