Pencils of Promise is seeking a driven, visionary, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the Board of Directors Executive Committee, the CEO will serve as the organization’s internal and external leader, setting bold and ambitious goals and executing against them with the support of the staff and Board. The CEO will act as the organization’s lead executive, fundraiser, and advocate as PoP continues growth towards 2015 and beyond.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced, results-oriented leader who is passionate about growing and scaling an organization and who holds the belief that education is a fundamental human right.

Key responsibilities include:

Organizational Leadership and Management

* In collaboration with the Board of Directors, Founder, and Leadership team, craft a compelling vision and strategy for the organization
* Lead all day to day operations and staff, with ultimate accountability for the success of the organization
* Build and mentor a high-performing senior leadership team, hiring and developing key talent to effectively advance PoP’s ambitious mission
* Implement internal systems and processes to drive performance and continuous improvement
* In collaboration with the Board, design the strategic planning process and manage its execution, including setting all organizational and departmental goals
* Oversee the annual budgeting process
* Act as primary liaison to the Board of Directors and participate on the Executive Committee
* Create a productive and engaging culture defined by passion, high-expectations, and results-orientation

Revenue Generation and External Leadership

* Develop and execute fundraising strategies leading to the sustainability and growth of the organization
* Create and cultivate relationships with major donors, building a broad base of support and a network of champions for PoP’s work
* Ensure ongoing engagement of existing donors in PoP’s work
* Develop and manage strategic relationships with key partners (peer NGO’s, funding partners, etc.) that can help PoP advance its mission
* Work with Founder as the external face of the organization, enhancing PoP’s visibility, brand recognition, and credibility
* Serve as an external voice for the organization, communicating PoP’s expertise and impact broadly and effectively
* Serve as a thought leader in the field, engaging with leading thinkers and contributing to the dialogue on education delivery in the developing world

Program Leadership

* In collaboration with the Director of Impact, provide vision, oversight, and direction for the achievement of PoP’s mission by creating, refining, and executing innovative programs, models, and plans
* In partnership with the Impact team, monitor and evaluate the impact of PoP’s programs, creating a continuous feedback look to drive improvement of program quality
* Monitor and understand the broader international education space and changes within the field; apply this understanding to organizational priorities and programmatic offerings

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
* Ten or more years of professional experience
* Demonstrated success leading and managing a high-performing organization, business unit, or team
* A keen intellect, with the ability to be an independent thinker and creative problem solver
* Revenue generation experience, with a track record of having secured large gifts and/or deals, preferably in the nonprofit space
* Exceptional interpersonal skills and charisma, with the ability to develop strong relationships across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders
* Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to be a listener and evaluator with the good judgment to make realistic and clear-cut decisions
* Knowledge of education delivery in the developing world preferred
* Entrepreneurial spirit and hunger to drive impact
* A heart for international education and the belief that access to a quality education can transform lives
