  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience
  • Minimum 2 years research experience preferred
    **Above qualifications may be waived in lieu of significant, relevant experience.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • License to practice professional nursing in the state of WV (may not be waived)
  • Certification by the Association of Clinical Research Personnel (ACRP) preferred. If candidate does not have certification at hire, must be obtained within three years of hire.

    Summary: As an expert clinician, promotes quality care through the coordination and continual development in an environment of clinical research.

    Coordination:
  • Coordinates and collaborates with appropriate personnel in the hospitals or affiliated facilities including scheduling and executing any study-specific test, examination and/or evaluation to ensure accurate, concise compilation of research data.
  • Attend clinical rounds/shift change report with medical and nursing personnel to help identify potential research patients.
  • Assures that all protocol-specific activities have been scheduled and/or completed.
  • Coordinates or collects all study samples per protocol.
  • Collaborate with study team to give and receive information related to potential study participants.
  • Serves as a liaison between personnel in various departments involved in the conduct of the clinical research and evening shift personnel involved with study participants.

    Clinical Research Knowledge:
     
  • Maintains a good understanding of all elements related to screening and enrolling patients in clinical research studies that he/she is responsible for.
  • Work collaboratively with investigators and study coordinators for study-specific training and communication related to possible or already accrued study participants.
  • Implements, with input from primary study coordinators, study-specific educational information to study team members (such as staff nurses .
  • Offers general clinical trial and protocol specific information to staff, community, professionals and the public.
  • Determines the need for study-specific training for study team members, patients and/or family members regarding research study requirements to ensure that all relevant individuals adequately understand key elements of the study.
  • Conducts in-service education for hospital personnel regarding research protocols and serves as a resource for established, ongoing studies. Secures and maintains training and delegation of authority logs for all trained personnel.
  • Maintains inventory of study-specific patient education materials.
  • Independently participates in activities to increase knowledge base and performance.

    Regulatory Maintenance and Data Management:
  • Ensures compliance with WVU Institutional Review Board, Good Clinical Practice guidelines and federal regulations related to clinical research.
  • Maintains timely and accurate reports of adverse events and protocol deviations to assure proper IRB and/or sponsor notification.
  • Maintains timely, study-specific documentation that reflects an accurate, complete, and legible record of study activities.

    Other Duties:
  • Develop specific goals and plans, to prioritize, organize and accomplish tasks independently and through others.
  • Participates in the patient recruitment and enrollment efforts.
  • Utilize all available means to identify potential study participants for a variety of clinical research studies.
  • Maintains and submits screening and enrollment logs for all trials.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None

    Performance Standard: Adheres to the established Performance Expectations for WVUH Employees in the areas of People, Service, Performance Improvement, and Shared Values & Culture.

    Physical Demands: This position requires manual dexterity used in operating office equipment; requires standing and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients; prolonged periods of sitting and the ability to walk moderate distances.
