Description: Full time experienced Cook needed for an assisted living facility in Little Rock, AR. This position Prepares and serves meals according to cycle’s menu; monitors methods of food handling, preparation, meal service and equipment cleaning. The Cook reports directly to the Executive Chef.

Duties: Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

In the absence of the Executive Chef, checks and inspects food products and supplies as delivered. Supervise and assist in storage of supplies and food products.
Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the Executive Chef.
Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other community personnel to ensure that dinning services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
Meet with the Executive Chef on a regularly scheduled basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
Report all complaints and grievances made by the resident.
Notify supervisor when you will be late or absent from work.
Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and community’s rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Determine amount and type of food and supplies as required for daily menus.
Coordinate food preparation and meal service.
Prepare, season, cook and serve for assigned meal; ensure appropriate portioned servings according to portion control standards.
Prepare nutritional snacks for residents as directed by the Executive Chef.
Taste and smell prepared food to determine quality and palatability.
Monitor temperature of hot/cold foods through food preparation/service to ensure that established temperature goals are met at steam table transfer & throughout meal service.
Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies.
Follow work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing/performing your assigned tasks.
Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (Note: Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc. from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, and spot cleaning/disinfecting.
Discard waste trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies etc., are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of the work day.
Perform kitchen cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection control procedures.
Return food trays and utensils to the wash room in the kitchen.
Keep floors dry. Clean spills immediately.
Keep excess supplies and equipment off the floor. Store in designated areas.
Attend and participate in scheduled orientation programs.
Attend and participate in disaster training programs as scheduled.
Wash hands before and after performing any service for the resident.
Report any conditions conducive to breeding insects, rodents or other vermin.
Follow defined Infection Control procedures.
Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to your supervisor.
Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties.
Report all safety violations.
Follow established procedures in the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
Be available during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster)
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Notify Executive Chef of food, supplies or equipment needs.
Clean equipment and work areas as assigned by the Executive Chef.
Use only the equipment you have been trained to use and in a safe manner.
Use only the equipment and supplies necessary to do the job.
Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
Monitor care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Ensure that all care is provided in privacy and that nutrition service personnel are knocking and identifying themselves before entering resident’s room.
Ensure that all nutrition service personnel are knowledgeable of the residents’ responsibilities and rights including the right to refuse.
Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property immediately.

Qualifications: We seek the following qualifications:
The Cook must be a high school graduate or equivalent education is preferred.
Preference is given to persons with education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets.

Minimum two (2) years food service experience in a health care dietary setting is desired.

Have general knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving.

Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals, as well as good motor coordination and manual dexterity are required for various work routines such as preparing food items, serving trays, handling soiled dishes, operating dietary equipment and cleaning work area.

This position will show a willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.

The Cook will be able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation and must be patient and tolerant toward staff, residents, and family members.

Applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check and meet all health and state requirements, including TB testing plus be in good mental and physical condition.
