Job Summary:
The Technical Editor is responsible for overall editing of manuals / media to ensure quality, style, content, and delivery.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Performs initial edits and reviews all Operation / Maintenance and Training Manuals / Media using initial edit checklist for such items as:
o Accuracy in spelling, grammar usage, punctuation
o Consistency in fonts, headings, language
o Technical accuracy
o Adherence to military style
o Artwork and text correlation
Reads and rewrites (if necessary) to ensure writers message is clear and concise.
Ensures that recommended edits are incorporated as intended.
Provides input regarding style conventions when direction is not provided in military style guide.
Updates style sheets as necessary.
Interacts with technical writers and publishing specialists, in person when necessary, and ...

Sometimes serves as Lead Editor on project.
Interacts and communicates with customer and attends start of work and in-process meetings when necessary.
Monitors status of editing projects and meets departmental deadlines.
Communicates status to supervisor/other team members as necessary.
Performs administrative tasks as directed by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:
Experience Requirements: Minimum 5 years or Bachelors Degree in related field.
Proven expertise in proofreading, copy editing, and desktop publishing.
Strong command of basic grammar, punctuation, spelling.
Proven ability to perform initial edits and reviews for adherence to military style, artwork and test correlation, and consistency in fonts, headings, and language.
Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate specific task information effectively.
Attention to detail and consistency a must.
Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
Ability to work overtime, when necessary to meet project deadlines.
Dependable attendance.

Grades are based on education, experience, seniority, and the level of supervision required.

Proofreading, copy editing and desktop publishing with Military manual experience.
