We are seeking an experienced project finance professional to lead & execute financing strategies for the acquisition of SunPower solar energy systems, or its output through PPA’s, by our customers, and including self-developed projects.  This position entails extensive interaction with the SunPower sales team and their clients to develop and explain financing strategies best-suited to the objectives and limitations of the situation.  The candidate should have experience with tax-incentivized finance structures, including leases and joint venture arrangements.  Strong communication and analytical skills, and experience leading and closing transactions, are requirements for this position.  An understanding of relevant tax and GAAP regulations, contractual matters (including Power Purchase Agreements (“PPAs”), analytic models (excel spreadsheets, lease pricing, partnership flip structures) and familiarity with finance providers in this industry segment is expected.  Knowledge of the energy industry is a plus.  The Director of Project Finance reports to the Managing Director of Project Finance, U & C Americas, and closely coordinates efforts with Business Unit Leaders, In-House Counsel, the Treasury Group, and other team members.

*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  * Lead the project finance team to develop the appropriate financing strategy for a given project
  * Train, advise and manage the analysis and creation of the financing plan for that project with junior members of the project finance team
  *  Develop and  maintain strategic relationships with finance providers, including “tax-equity” investors, debt providers, and cash equity investors – understand investor strengths and limitations
  * Effectively solicit financing proposals from marketplace – run fair and comprehensive bidding programs
  * Negotiate and  successfully  execution of the financial documentation arrangements, with the support of counsel
  * Regular interaction with the SunPower sales team and clients to understand objectives and recognize challenges to be addressed in designing the project financing plan
  * Support SunPower business units with the development of new channels of business and lead the Project Finance related activities
  * Explore, recommend and lead improvements in work processes across the cross functional teams at SunPower working together on each project financing
  * Building and modeling project pro forma spreadsheets, and managing spreadsheets with junior team members
  * Track renewable energy markets, be aware of potential impacts on SunPower financing strategies
  * Develop and implement improved financing structures
  * Manage outside contractor and consulting relationships
  * Support sales teams in RFP processes
  * Works closely with the Transactions, U&C Americas group on M&A Activities



Minimum

A degree in finance, accounting, engineering or other relevant field, with at least 7 to 9  years of related experience, in project finance, leasing or equipment finance, with experience in tax-subsidized financing.

Solid financial modeling or related experience and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the project finance, leasing, or equipment finance industries are also required. Solar or renewable energy finance experience strongly preferred. Experience leading transactions is expected and experience in international markets is a plus.  A deep understanding of the following is expected:

  * “Tax-Equity” investor and investment experience
  * Leadership role in equity and debt fund raising
  * Understanding and negotiation of PPA’s, leases, EPC contracts  and other project financing legal arrangements
  * Familiarity with solar financing structures including partnerships, leases and secured debt structures
  * Experience performing financial modeling and the understanding of financial concepts (ROI, IRR, NPV, MISF, WACC, etc...)
  * Strong math and computer skills
  * Project management experience
  * Team management experience, working in a team environment
  * Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
