Job Title:
Head of Global Communications and Scientific Content, MS Medical Affairs

Job Responsibilities/Department Description:

The Head of Global Communications and Scientific Content will report directly to the Head of Medical Affairs, MS Franchise and be a member of the MS Franchise Medical Affairs leadership team. In this role, the SMD will lead the strategy and execution of Medical/Scientific MS Communications (internal and external, including publications, public relations, investor relations, supporting medical information) and Medical Content Globally for the MS Franchise. The SMD will work closely with the SMD Head of Global Brand Strategy to create the Global medical affairs brand strategy and plan. The SMD will work with his/her team to execute many aspects of the plan related to, for example medical communications and content.

This position is based in Cambridge, MA.

Missions and objectives

  • Annual Global medical affairs plan: co-lead the development of the global medical affairs plan with cross-functional and team input to establish a template for creation of the regional plans
  • Leadership: active participation in the MS Franchise Medical affairs leadership team. Managing a team of 6 (2 associate directors/directors MS Medical Content, 2 associate directors/directors MS Communications, 1 publications manager, 1 administrative assistant).
  • Scientific Communications: SMD will lead the development of strategic publication and communication plans for the MS Franchise and its products, working together with his/her team to oversee the execution of the plans including development of high quality publications of clinical trial data (posters, abstracts, manuscripts), and coordination with HEOR and science. Identify new ideas for data analysis and publication concepts. Ensure data from Genzyme sponsored or investigator sponsored trials are presented in an appropriate and timely fashion, in a fair balanced manner and according to publications guidelines and internal procedures.
  • Medical Meetings and activities: Provide medical input into topics for training meetings, symposium, advisory boards, and investigator meetings. Together with his/her team and cross-functional teams, help create the content and oversee execution of these medical meetings. Help co-lead the Genzyme MS presence at global medical congresses (e.g. AAN and ECTRIMS) including medical affairs booth, MS expert meetings, briefing documents/survival guide, objectives and scientific content (abstracts, posters, presentations)
  • Internal MS Education: oversee development of (together with regional leads) a plan for internal medical education (training modules, FAQs, critical question data responses) and together with his/her team and others oversee the creation of foundations for country level training. Participate in planning and content development for Global Medical affairs summit meetings.
  • Liaise with MS Regional medical directors and brand leads to ensure fluid scientific communication
  • External MS Education: oversee development of (together with regional leads) a plan for external medical education unsolicited (disease state education) and solicited product specific presentations and materials and together with her team and others oversee the creation of foundations for global materials that can be customized locally.
  • Internal/External Medical Communication: Provide MS Medical input into MS public relations strategy and materials, support for investor relations
  • Advisory Boards: together with the SMD Head of Global Brand Strategy establish the global MS advisory plan and oversee its execution. Support content needs for regional advisory boards.
  • Cross-functional Medical Support: provide input as needed to communication points and initiatives of HEOR, commercial etc.
  • Budget: co-Develop the annual Global Medical affairs budget and closely manage and monitor the budget
  • MS Expert Development: foster relationships and work closely with MS Experts in the context of authorship, advisory boards, symposia etc. Contribute to development of MS Expert plans.
  • Manage external vendors, including the Medical Education agencies of record


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:

·Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) required
·5-7 years of industry experience in Medical Affairs including medical affairs communication experience
·Management experience including direct and indirect reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

·Medical Doctor preferred
·Excellent data interpretation and presentation skills, ability to critically analyze and synthesize complex scientific information.
·Ability to think strategically
Excellent interpersonal skills, matrix management skills essential for coordination and interaction with cross-functional teams
· Proven leadership, ability to attract, motivate and manage talent. The position calls for high energy and excellent program management.
