* Contributes to the overall strategic vision for the Corporate Mortgage and Real Estate functional area(s) by strategically developing, maintaining and managing new commercial mortgage loan origination and production
* Ensures his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility’s strategic plans and programs are aligned with the divisions and Lincoln Financial Group’s (LFG) overall business plans and specific strategic and tactical initiatives
* Partners effectively with Legal counsel and receivers on delinquent loans, restructure requests, foreclosures and other problem assets
* Collaborates and effectively leverages key internal stakeholders (e.g. Investment Management organization, Corporate Finance, Compliance, Internal Audit and Law) to accurately and timely complete commercial mortgage transactions/processes and optimize net investment income for the enterprise Analyzing
* Monitors economic and market trends, peer trends and activities for his/her area(s) of responsibility to assess competitive opportunities in the marketplace
* Establishes metrics and utilizes existing performance monitoring systems to provide quantifiable gauges of the delivery of business result and impact of tactical initiatives
* Maintains current knowledge of all mortgage industry, regulatory and investment/economic trends and developments, assess the impact, and ensures that new trends/developments are appropriately incorporated in current and future strategies Executing
* Ensures that his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility are meeting all objectives pertaining to quality, compliance, regulations, productivity, budget and project management
* Develops and executes effective commercial mortgage marketing and messaging strategies/business plans which optimize Lincoln’s return on investment and gain market share for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility
* Consistently achieves or exceeds individual annual new business targets including, but not limited to:
o identifying business opportunities, enhancing and managing existing client (e.g. mortgage bankers, real estate developers and borrowers) base and developing new client relationships
o ensuring deals are screened to fit underwriting pricing and standards
o negotiating new commercial loan origination with applicable parties
* Contributes to the achievement of departmental new business targets and objects by proactively supporting other assigned territories or accounts as needed
* Builds, maintains and leverages key relationships with external business partners (e.g. mortgage bankers, real estate developers and borrowers) to successfully achieve annual new business targets Leading
* Serves as mortgage “team leader” as demonstrated by sharing technical expertise with team members to consistently achieve new business targets and profitability, including but not limited to:
o mentoring team members by performing joint client calls and providing feedback intended to enhance individual team member performance
o providing support and guidance to team members through complex business/credit issues
o collaborating with manager to contribute to the performance expectation and management of team members
* Leads the management of the commercial mortgage portfolio for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility to maximize investment income while simultaneously minimizing risk, including:
o analyzing and evaluating commercial mortgage loan and real estate investment opportunities
o making recommendations
o prudently investing corporate funds according to established investment guidelines to achieve the best possible risk/reward within set guidelines Requirements Educational
o A Bachelor’s degree
o MBA or Advanced degree preferred Experience
o 12+ years of progressively increasing responsible commercial real estate experience; or 16+ years of equivalent progressively increasing responsible commercial real estate work related experience.
o 5+ years of senior management experience including influencing senior management and critical stakeholder responsibility.
o Expertise in commercial real estate principles and fundamentals.
o Expert knowledge of mortgage markets and macro-economic trends that affect those markets.
o Expertise in understanding and evaluating real estate financial statements.
o Expert knowledge of real estate legal concepts and understanding of loan documents.
o Advanced ability to understand and apply financial concepts such as but not limited to Future Value, Present Value, Compound Interest, Discounting, Capitalization Rates, and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
o Expertise in commercial real estate valuation.
o Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
o Ability to use ARGUS or similar commercial real estate software preferred.
o A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
o Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions
o Drives performance targets to completion
