She/he must be able to make independent decisions based upon appropriate nursing assessment and experiential learning. To assist in the decision making process, competent utilization of ancillary communications equipment and accession and appropriate interpretation of approved computer guidelines and database health and service information will be required.
It is vital that the MCC nurse has good communication skills, exhibits professional empathetic nursing and posses a solid and up to date nursing knowledge. It is required that she/he has an excellent computer background, good writing skills, be able to type at 40 wpm and a solid grasp of medical terminology and correct spelling. Attention to detail and accuracy is critical in this position.
The MCC nurse shall provide a professional role model for colleagues and non-professional staff members and may be asked to serve on unit and/or hospital committees directly related to patient, professional or facility issues. This person must be able to assume a leadership role in crisis situations, ensuring that patient care remains the focus of the procedure to both ancillary and medical staff members .
The nurse is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules, and regulations established by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, and knowledge of policies and procedures within Mountain States Health Alliance. He/she demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care based on meticulous application of the nursing process. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers.The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence based nursing practice and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collections; aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality (KIQ's). This commitment to quality results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements (Hold the Gains). The RN serves as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers. He/she demonstrates competency in the care of (circle all that apply): Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric patient .
The MCC nurse must be flexible to allow 24X7 staffing and as such may be required to cover any combination of hours. Within the MCC, no shift is guaranteed to anyone, although one may be assigned more frequently. Based on call volume and call abandonment rates, management will establish staffing paradigms. All nurses must be able to rotate to all shifts. Weekends will require rotational coverage. This rotation shall be established based upon the number of employees and call volume. Holidays will have an established rotation.On-Call will be required for all nurses based upon the needs of the call center and will be established by management as required.
Due to the nature of this position, the team member will have read only access to the patient health record for each MSHA facility.  The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and comply with the rules established for patient confidentiality. MSHA expects that every team member will role model Patient-Centered Care behaviors and be guided by MSHA's Values and the Principles of Patient-Centered Care. Every member of MSHA's leadership team is accountable for coaching and monitoring reporting team members to ensure that the standards and initiatives of Patient-Centered Care are a living reality in their work units / Departments.

It is vital that an individual in this position be capable of good communication skills. It is of the utmost importance that written communication is legible.

MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work.
Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to the MCC Nursing Supervisor, the Director, Medical Call Center, and to follow Chain of Command.

The Medical Call Center Resource Nurse is a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and is currently licensed to practice as a professional nurse in the appropriate state. This individual must have at least three years hospital, home health, or occupational health experience with substantial public contact preferred.
Must be able to complete job related competencies as deemed necessary to the performance of the RN role in the nursing department of employment.


CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Plans and conducts a minimum of two hours of job related educational programs.
2. Obtains 12 hours educational credit.
3. Verbalizes understanding of Shared Governance Model and willingly serves on at least one Shared Governance, hospital committee, task force, or project to improve patient care or work area.
4. Identifies relevant patient care and/or nursing practice KIQ's (key indicators of quality). This is achieved by using PDCA methodology and the appropriate data collection, aggregation, analysis and trending in the demonstration of measurable improvement outcomes.
5. Attends 75% of staff meetings and reads 100% of the minutes of the meetings missed.
