Specific Duties

13. Reviews patient records for preventive care, tracts preventive care and conducts patient education associated with chronic disease.

14. Performs other duties as assigned depending on nursing care demands and/or needs.

15. Performs blood draws, EKGs, medication administration and implementation of orders for patient care in select areas.

16. Prepares rooms and patients for examinations and takes responsibility for coordinating smooth patient flow in the clinic area.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

·         U.S. Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

·         Education: Must be a Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the ACEN at the time program was completed orcompletion of education or training in the military service which is accepted by the Licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements

·         Licensure: Possess a full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia

·         English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English (LVN/LPNs appointed to direct care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)

Preferred Experience: In addition to the basic qualification requirements must have demonstrated evidence of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities determined to be essential for satisfactory performance in the position.

·         Basic computer literacy proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office programs or comparable word processing, spreadsheet and graphic software and the ability to learn new programs specific to the VA.

·         Minimum 2 years of recent, successful clinical nursing practice as a LVN/LPN preferred.

·         At least 1 year of formal phlebotomy experience and competency in designated areas preferred.

·         Intravenous Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification preferred in designated areas preferred.

·         Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross- CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers or Military Training Network.

·         Demonstrated evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration, team work, and excellent interpersonal skills.

·         Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and require minimal supervision.

·         Demonstrated experience in providing patient education and health coaching.

·         Demonstrated ability to work well with patients/families and with other health care professionals.

·         Documented evidence of providing consistent excellent customer service.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

GS-3  None beyond the basic requirements.  LPNs at this grade level are expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license (e.g., medication administration); however, completed work may require routine or detailed higher level review depending upon the complexity of the duties involved.

GS-4 (Experience): Must have completed at least (6) six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN.

OR

GS-4 (Education):   Must have graduated from an approved school andhave (1) one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures.

OR (Education Continued) Must have graduated from an approved school of at least 24 months duration.

GS-5: Must have completed at least (1) one year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level

GS-6: Must have completed at least (1) one year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent and fully meets all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN and demonstrates the following:

NOTE:  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate’s education and experience and recommend the step at which the candidate will be placed in that specific grade.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

CREDENTIALING:This position requires the completion/clearance of a Dependent Credentialing process (Vetpro)
