Independently performs professional work in planning, organizing and directing a comprehensive aquatic program at one or more municipal aquatic facilities; responsible for the overall operation of the pool complex; develops a wide variety of comprehensive aquatic programs, including swimming, water safety, and lifesaving; develops specialized comprehensive aquatic programs, including tiny tot, senior citizen, exercise, and water sports activities; researches and anticipates community interest and needs; plans and organizes programs and activities in response to these needs; establishes program objectives and goals; coordinates and maintains program schedules; plans publicity and logistical requirements; recruits, trains, and supervises instructors and lifeguards; conducts classes, directs, instructs, and certifies participants in their proficiency; evaluates programs through feedback and statistics; conducts feasibility studies and adjusts and offers programs; plans, coordinates, and conducts adapted aquatic programs; recruits, trains, and monitors staff and volunteers to properly assist persons who are disabled to use the pool facilities; facilitates their participation in applicable programs and activities; develops and organizes special events, competitive swim programs, and other aquatic activities; assesses budgetary requirements of the facility; prepares and submits recommendations for operating budget and capital improvement project requests, facility development, and renovation requests; orders, purchases and issues equipment and supplies; maintains inventory; maintains accurate records and reports; and performs other related duties as required.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in recreation, physical education, education or a related field. Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must provide the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
One year of professional experience in planning, organizing and directing recreational activities. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles, practices, tools and techniques of recreation; playground administration and operation; group behavior and the ability to organize and instruct groups of children and adults; and prepare reports.

NONQUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Substitution A master's degree in recreation, physical education or education from an accredited university may be substituted for the experience requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcript with the embossed seal or a copy of your diploma within 7 days of filing this application in order to be given credit. CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
1. American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate or equivalent; and
2. Either an American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate, certificate of completion of the American Heart Association Health Care Provider course, or equivalent.

Prior to appointment
Valid Hawaii driver's license (Type 3).

Prior to completion of probation
1. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate or equivalent;
2. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or equivalent;
3. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent;
4. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certificate or equivalent.
