OR Manager/Surgical Services Nurse Manager

Day Shift - 8-5 Fulltime position
Salary: The midpoint is 103K
Relocation Reimbursement: Case by Case

Overview:
Surgical Services Nurse Manager is responsible for the 24-hour coordination and management of OR Services. This position provides leadership for: clinical excellence; personnel management; fiscal accountability, positive relations, and customer service. Participates in hospital-wide activities to achieve department and organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

Staff/Department Management
1. Promotes a strong culture of safety.
2. Ensure scheduling of adequate trained staff for scheduled and emergency surgery.
3. Assure that programs are developed, implemented and records kept for in-service education, on-the-job training and orientation classes for newly assigned department staff.
4. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, direct and coordinate OR Services.

6. Assure that department staff, patients, visitors, etc. follow established policies and procedures at all times.
7. Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible department personnel.
8. Complete Leadership projects as assigned.

OR Services Management
9. Make frequent rounds to ensure that department staff is performing required duties and assure that quality patient care is rendered.
10. Identifies and studies service problems and assists in the solution.
11. Provides oversight for the surgical scheduling process.
12. Provides oversight for the pre and post op patient education program within the Surgical Services Department.
13. Provides oversight as needed to secure special supplies and equipment for cases as needed.
14. Provides back-up nursing support for surgical cases as needed.

Qualifications:

Education: A.A. degree required, Bachelor's degree (B.S.N.) from a four year college/university strongly preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five years related experience and training in a related position required. Minimum five years management experience required. Rural CAH experience is strongly desired.
Job Knowledge: Expertise in the clinical or business field relevant to the position is required. Thorough knowledge of the regulations governing the areas managed. Must have excellent management and leadership skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Responsible for co-managing pharmaceuticals with the Pharmacy Department. Experience with proper disposal techniques for tissues and proper handling of specimens.

Language Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written, oral, reading and comprehension) in English are required. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, physicians, staff and the general public. Ability to defuse hostile and/or emotionally upset patients and family members.

Job Scope: Recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Job involves a high degree of complexity. This is due to the laws, regulations and the individual nature of each patient. Responsible for developing policies, procedures and processes for department and/or entire facility. Decisions are made within broad interpretation of applicable laws, licensure requirements and/or governmental guidelines. Operate independently with minimal supervision. Errors can impact patients, Acute Care, ED, staffing levels, billing and regulatory compliance.
