This position is part of a small team of department technologists who provide assistance and technical expertise to the production component of FIT’s new Film and Media Program, which brings in its first cohort of students Fall 2014. The Technologist C works under supervision of the Film and Media program’s Technology Associate.

The Technologist C must start late summer 2014 to assist the Technology Associate in organizing the Equipment Cage and Checkout System for the program.

The Technologist C will work within the Production area, which services all Film and Media undergraduates and Film and Media faculty. The Technologist C will work in tandem with the Technology Associate to make sure all labs and equipment are running properly, as well as working at the Equipment Checkout counter. In addition to working in the Equipment Cage, Production Shooting Studio, and Edit Lab, the Technologist C will be actively available to students; helping them with software and troubleshooting technical issues.

Candidates must be familiar with safe and appropriate use of DSLR filmmaking equipment and related MAC computer systems and software, including audio and video. This position will distribute film equipment and related materials to students and faculty during class hours and open studio when the Equipment Studio Manager is unable. Technician will also be available to help students in the editing lab and teachers in the classroom when time allows.

Technologists are expected to maintain a working knowledge of all equipment available through the equipment room and software used in the editing lab. This includes video and audio equipment and software. They must communicate and reinforce all protocols and procedures for borrowing and use of equipment to students and instructors.

This is a customer service position. This general description is not to be construed as all-inclusive.

Responsibilities:

• Provide courteous and quality technical support to faculty, students, and staff.

• Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on computers and peripherals

• Install software and hardware.

• Checkout Equipment to students

• Assist in deploying computer images.

• Report daily task outcome to the senior team member.

• Work on various tasks assigned throughout the day and pickup on outstanding tasks without needing to be told.

• Ensure that labs and classrooms are properly maintained.

• Enforce lab and classroom policies.

• Inspection of equipment for damaged and proper function.

• Respond to general questions regarding usage of equipment, software, materials and facilities.

Requirements:

• Minimum of Technical Diploma or Associate’s Degree required.

• 1 year experience working in a training or supervisory capacity in the educational technical field.

• Knowledge of current trends in DSLR filmmaking and audio recording technology.

• Extensive knowledge of Mac computers, devices and familiarity with Windows and Android devices.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

• Ability and willingness to interface daily with students, faculty and staff.

• Ability to handle Equipment Cage needs and Classroom needs simultaneously

• Strong leadership, collaboration and communication skills Experience with the following:

• Current image display systems, 2D projectors and monitors and the ability to connect them to various data playback systems.

• Sound support systems, including mixers, microphones, monitors, surround sound systems and portable PAs.

• Digital media compressions and codecs. Digital media playback systems and the ability to master digital media for those 
systems, including Mac Mini, media players, Blu-ray, and DVD.

• Digital editing software, including Final-cut Pro X, Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, After Effects, Photoshop, and Pro Tools Audio Editing software.

• Familiarity with smart-classroom and smart-theater operation.

Additional Information:

This is a part time position

Not to exceed 25 hours per week

$29.34 per hour (91/0)
