SCOPE OF POSITION
The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for oversight of the Infection Prevention Plan, assuring that the plan is based on current, sound, and published epidemiological principles. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for assuring that the plan is developed into policy and accessible to employees and staff as needed. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for surveillance and reporting of Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAIs), diseases of epidemiologic significance to the facility, employee, patient, staff and visitor exposures or iatrogenic illness, and diseases required by the Virginia/Tennesse State of Department of Public Health. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for oversight of the Infection Prevention Plan, assuring that the plan is based on current, sound, and published epidemiological principles. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for assuring that the plan is developed into policy and accessible to employees and staff as needed. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for surveillance and reporting of Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAIs), diseases of epidemiologic significance to the facility, employee, patient, staff and visitor exposures or iatrogenic illness, and diseases required by the Virginia/Tennesse State of Department of Public Health. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible to report conditions that warrant immediate action to prevent illness or injury and to take independent action when necessary. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for coordinating facility compliance with TJC Standards for Surveillance, Prevention, and Control of Infection, the OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen Ruling and applicable local, Virginia/Tennesse State and Federal Guidelines addressing infection control or infectious diseases. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for general supervision of the Team Member Health function of the facility.

The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for maintaining OSHA compliance as well as other healthcare agency recommendations / regulations pertaining to the health and safety of MSHA team members. This includes the completion of the annual TB Risk Assessment for the facility. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health is responsible for maintaining records of team member testing results. This includes an annual TB Screening for team members. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health will initiate and maintain records for new team members. The RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health will be responsible for administering vaccinations and maintaining records of vaccinations.

It is vital that an individual in this position be capable of good communication skills. It is of the utmost importance that written communication is legible.

MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work.

Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.

RN can verbalize that the RN is responsible for all of the LPN’s patients and therefore must ensure reporting from the LPN happens in a timely, appropriate and complete manner.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The  RN - Infection Prevention/Team Member Health reports directly to Director of Quality Management and Human Resources Director of the facility and a matrix reporting relationship with the Director of Infection Prevention for MSHA and the Director of Human Resources for MSHA.

An RN with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a health related field with a minimum of two years experience in health care. Certification in Infection Control is preferred but not mandatory. Must be able to understand epidemiology and statistics. Must have a good working knowledge of computer operating systems and at a minimum be able to operate MS Office Suite. Must
have the ability to quickly adapt to change and to be able to multitask. Must have the ability to prioritize and shift priority rapidly in an environment that is constantly changing.
