We are seeking an exceptional leader committed to ensuring the highest quality care is continually delivered to our patients. Based in the Department of Accountable Care, the Physician Advisor, a newly created position will assist the organization in challenging current physician In-patient practices in order to achieve our desired resource management and quality goals. The position is 80% administrative with the acknowledged need to maintain clinical competency by practice up to 20% within their respective specialty. The Physician Advisor is responsible for: Managing the efficiency of In-patient care delivered in the organization and collaborates with all levels of hospital administration including the Chief Medical Officers, and leadership of medical and nursing staff, as well as hospital and clinic administration. Developing collaborative, open partnerships with the directors of case management and social work, ensuring proper discharge planning and utilization management. Developing and implementing methods to optimize use of hospital services for all patients while also ensuring the quality of care provided. Developing case management protocols, collaborating with and educating physicians how to reduce length of hospital stay, ensure patients are in the appropriate level of care, and monitoring the appropriate use of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Working collaboratively with hospital leadership to ensure maximum performance on all hospital based performance measures on our risk contracts. Developing and facilitating productive internal and external relationships with all physicians and constituents of case management. She/He communicates with the payer's medical directors and physician advisors as requested to resolve any disputes surrounding medical necessity approvals for continued stay and ensures physician accountability for efficient patient care management. Qualifications Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine. Completion of specialty residency and Board Certification in specialty areas such as: Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Family Medicine. License to practice medicine as a Physician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts A minimum of 3 years experience gained in such areas as: Managed care, Quality Assurance/Management, Utilization Review, Resource Management, at the payer or provider level are required. Exceptional communication, analytical, and advanced interpersonal skills with strong knowledge of regulations, trends, policies and procedures related to quality and safety in the health care delivery system are also required. Working knowledge of admission and discharge criteria such as: Interqual, and Milliman and a strong foundation in MS-DRG, APR, DRG, AP-DRG, and ICD-9-CM.
