Collaborates with other GRECCs and the Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care in designing information systems appropriate to the management of national GRECC programs.

-Develops, validates and implements appropriate evaluation instruments to assess GRECC programs and their ultimate impact on Veterans, VA staff, residents and students. Works with other GRECC staff to refine and modify existing programs based on the results of these evaluation studies.

-Participates in the development and refinement of measuring instruments for use in the VA systems by health care providers, evaluators, and educators. Coordinates these functions with other agencies and institutions, and with existing GRECC personnel

-Maintains quality control of education programs by evaluating instructional methodology and course content on an ongoing basis and recommends adjustments of training processes as necessary. Continually updates curriculum material so that it reflects "state-of-the-art" knowledge.

-Facilitates, coordinates, plans, develops, implements, directs, conducts, and evaluates education and training programs and activities within and related to GRECC. This will include programs in clinical geriatrics/gerontology and research for such groups as physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers and others, as well as students and residents from these respective disciplines, from GRECC, the host medical center, other VA facilities, community health care facilities and affiliated academic institutions. Both traditional and innovative approaches to education, training, and evaluation are expected with a focus on ensuring both attainment of knowledge and documenting improvement in performance or clinical practice.

-Collaborates with facilities Associate Chiefs of Staff for Educaton to ensure GRECC sponsored or related educatonal programming is consistent with facilities' educational purpose, needs and mission. Coordinates activities among the various educational institutions and programs related to GRECC, including programs that are relevant to geriatric medicine and education of allied health professionals who specialize in geriatrics/gerontology.

-Develops educational strategy and mechanism for exporting training, educational and clinical models developed within the GRECC to other VA and non-VA medical centers. Develops programming related to training at local, regional and national levels by training trainers of others.

-Conducts independent research related to program effectiveness in the primary area of expertise, independently and in collaboration with others, develops executes, and completes educational or scientific research that leads to peer-reviewed publications.

-Takes an active leadership role in local, VISN, and national projects within the VA.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. Citizenship and proficient in spoken and written English

Have a doctoral degree in Medicine

Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

-Has developed educational or training programs or served as program director

-Has an established record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

-Has completed formal training in education or research methods and has experience conducting scientific or education research as project principal investigator, and writing education or research grants that were funded.

-Demonstrated knowledge of educational and evaluative principles so that he/she may skillfully inform and consult with others about gerontology education and training program development and evaluation.

-Qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor level within the appropriate Department at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences; also possess strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
