POSITION SUMMARY:                    Provides nursing care to all patients.  Maintains a smooth, efficient department by triaging, prioritizing, assessing and assisting physician or nurse practitioner in the treatment of patients.  Aware of the physical and psychosocial needs while aiming for the highest standard of care possible.  Works under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner.  The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient’s particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs.  The patient population served by this position may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.  JOB SPECIFICATIONS:EDUCATION:                                      MINIMUM:         High school diploma or GED; Licensed by an accredited school of nursing. EXPERIENCE:                                    MINIMUM:         0 – 6 months                                                                 PREFERRED:      1 – 2 years CLINICAL SKILLS:                          Assists with transcribing, receiving and noting physician’s orders, basic patient care, collection of patient data, IV therapy, sterile technique, medication administration, CPR, body mechanics, specimen collection, barrier technique, patient and family education.  Assisting physician and/or nurse practitioner with procedures, calls in prescriptions, orders follow-up tests per order of physician and/or nurse practitioner. ADMINISTRATION SKILLS:         Answers telephones.  Maintains logs on refrigerators and waived tests.  Maintains patient charts.  Order medication, surgical and nursing supplies.  Schedules tests, makes referrals and appointments. MACHINE SKILLS:                          Calculator, FAX, photocopier, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
