The Navy designs and operates some of the most advanced ships, submarines, aircraft and equipment on earth. It develops and utilizes some of the most state-of-the-art weapons and communications systems in existence. And it plans and builds a broad range of structures required to perform its missions around the world. Critical to these endeavors is the role of Naval Engineering and the management responsibilities of Naval Engineers. They serve as the technical leaders of the Navy and focus on any of a variety of specific engineering disciplines.

Engineering Focus Areas: Currently, there's demand for engineers in the following areas:

* Engineering (General) – Engineering Duty Officers (EDOs) apply their expertise to the development of ships and integrated warfare systems. Major functional areas include research and development (R&D), ships and ship systems engineering, electronic systems engineering and combat/weapons systems engineering.
* Civil Engineering – Officers in the Navy Civil Engineering Corps (CEC ...

* Engineering (General) – Engineering Duty Officers (EDOs) apply their expertise to the development of ships and integrated warfare systems. Major functional areas include research and development (R&D), ships and ship systems engineering, electronic systems engineering and combat/weapons systems engineering.
* Civil Engineering – Officers in the Navy Civil Engineering Corps (CEC) head up vital Navy projects worldwide (including building runways, ports, bases and more) – and manage everything from construction plans to construction teams.
* Aerospace Engineering – Aerospace Engineering Duty Officers (AEDOs) provide professional management and technical direction in the entire air weapon system acquisition process: the design, development, testing, procurement, engineering, production and logistic support of Naval aircraft, spacecraft and weapons.
* Aviation Maintenance – Aviation Maintenance Duty Officers (AMDOs) develop, establish and implement maintenance and material management policies and procedures to support naval aircraft, airborne weapons, attendant systems and related support equipment Fleet-wide.

Key Opportunities: It’s possible to maintain an existing civilian career while also enjoying the challenges and rewards of Naval Engineering. Engineers in the Navy Reserve serve as few as two days each month and two weeks each year. There are opportunities for additional service and pay and flexible scheduling opportunities to meet service requirements. There are also distinct professional advantages:

* Expand knowledge working with highly classified, cutting-edge technology and top industry experts – both military and civilian
* Work in environments ranging from nearby bases to surface ships, from Naval shipyards to specialty commands such as Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in Washington, D.C.
* Further expertise via hands-on experience and Navy-funded advanced training (postgraduate level)
* Manage key departments of skilled personnel and billions of dollars in equipment and technology

Qualifications and Requirements: Candidates must satisfy the following criteria to be eligible for employment consideration.

* U.S. citizenship: Required
* Education: Graduate or student of an accredited college or university in the United States or in a United States territory pursuing a BA, BS or MS (preferably majoring in mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry or other technical areas)
* Gender: Male or female
* Age: 19 to 40 (qualified candidates over 40 will be considered on a case-by-case basis)
* Medical exam: Required
* Physical fitness test: Required
