Amount of Travel Required: 5%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required. Ability to work a flexible schedule is necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares estimates for potential construction projects.
  • Reviews specification information and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Organizes bid components to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Performs takeoffs on blueprints (i.e., circuiting and scaling drawings, counting devices and equipment, etc.).
  • Consults with clients, vendors, foreman/superintendents, and project managers to discuss and formulate estimates.
  • Confers with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes/adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Reviews and finalizes bids to make sure bid is accurate and complete. Follows up on completed bids to ensure receipt and outcome.
  • Attends jobsite walk throughs on awarded projects.
  • Mentors other Estimators (Level I and II) and assists them in the formulation and development of estimates, follow up activities in regards to estimating activities, and bid strategies.
  • Maintains positive relationships with fellow co-workers, customers, suppliers, and vendors. Takes the lead to contact appropriate parties (consultant, engineer, owner, etc.) to answer and/or clarify any questions and ambiguities.
  • Achieves $7,000,000/year in awarded jobs.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent technical training and five years of electrical estimating experience; or
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent work hours (8,000) and five years of electrical estimating experience.
  • Any appropriate combination of education and experience as determined by management.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Must be proficient in the use of a PC and Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Experience in Accubid is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong mathematical skills are required.
  • In-depth knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment, but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from high-speed computer printers and other peripherals. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for two to four hours daily. Occasional travel to various worksites may also be required, depending on assignment.
