General Summary: 

Senior scientific position with strong emphasis on chemical food safety. This position provides overall support and guidance in ensuring the safety of food, especially related to ingredients and new ingredient technologies, food processing and packaging materials and containers according to company, industry, and regulatory requirements. In addition to assuring the safety of existing ingredients and materials, this position will support the registration of new ingredients and technologies with all appropriate industry and regulatory authorities. Provides global cross-functional teams, such as Global Research & Develoment, Global Quality and Legal, with ingredient safety expertise for innovation projects, crisis management and operational support. Participates in external organizations such as Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), American Bakers Association (ABA), Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP) and Flavor Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA).

Primary Responsibilities:

* 
Evaluate the chemical risks associated with prior-approved ingredients; register ingredients accordingly with industry and regulatory authorities. The registration process may involve oversight of testing. 
* 
Review purchased raw ingredients and processes for global regulatory compliance. Provide input to specification process, as a subject matter expert, in a way that assures ongoing safety and compliance. 
* 
Respond to internal customer inquiries regarding the chemical food safety of ingredients and other materials 
* 
Engages with trade association and scientific organizations to minimize scientific and regulatory barriers to innovation and ongoing business 
* 
Monitor and provide input on strategies to manage current and emerging chemical food safety issues with potential impact to Campbell Soup Company. 
* 
Oversee externally contracted chemical food safety evaluations for ingredients to support technical, marketing and regulatory and/or nutrient-related initiatives. 
* 
Participate in food safety-related projects with cross-functional partners. 
* 
Provide subject matter expertise internally during business negotiations, acquisition projects or incidents/crises involving products/ingredients. Provide subject matter expertise to Corporate Crisis Committee.

Job Complexity:

* 
Advanced knowledge of toxicology needed to manage human health or regulatory crises affecting the Company. This includes identifying potential problems with substances (both ingredients and contaminants) and making judgments on the risk level and problem solving and/or providing expertise on any ingredient safety issue. 
* 
Expertise in principles and techniques of risk analysis (e.g., risk assessment, risk management and risk communication) related to intentional additives and unintentional contaminants. 
* 
Ability to lead advocacy for our businesses with government officials and explain the company's point of view on important issues in an appropriate manner. 
* 
Knowledge of the regulatory landscape (e.g., regulations, issues) that may affect the beverage or food industry. This includes recognition and appreciation of differences in the regulatory framework of different countries as well as some knowledge of the major regulatory issues facing our industry. 
* 
Ability to manage projects to ensure successful delivery (on time, within budget, meeting agreed upon success criteria) to establish clear goals and accountabilities. 
* 
Advise and educate internal stakeholders by disseminating key facts and presenting complex information in a concise and easy-to-understand manner. Use technical and business expertise to explain difficult concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, tailoring communications to meet each. 
* 
Partners with Supply Chain organization to support on-going business needs of operations globally.


Minimum Requirements:

Minimum education required: M.S. toxicology, chemistry, biochemistry or related

Education desired: Ph.D. preferred, in food safety, toxicology, chemistry, food science or related field.

Years of relevant experience: 6-10 years hands-on experience with safety of food related to ingredients, formulations and/or processing in an industry or government setting

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Advanced knowledge of toxicology as related to foods and beverages 
* 
Expertise in principles and techniques of risk analysis (e.g., risk assessment, risk management and risk communication). 
* 
Knowledge of the global safety & regulatory requirements in CODEX International standards, North America (Prop 65 & CIR), Europe, and Asia on ingredients, formulations & finished products 
* 
Excellent communication (verbal, written), interpersonal, and computer skills 
* 
Well organized while handling multiple projects simultaneously 
* 
Demonstrated aptitude to work with cross-functional and cross-regional groups
IMPORTANT PLUS Factors:

+ Diplomate American Board of Toxicology (DABT) certification 
* 
+ Hands on experience with processes for manufacturing foods and beverages
